St. Mary's Choir sings a favourite anthem that asks the question: "Who Will Teach The Children?" Here at St. Mary's the question is answered by a small, but dedicated group of teachers, some great young people as helpers and a group of loyal nursery volunteers. If you've ever wondered what happens after the students leave the Church after the singing of the gospel hymn, the following explanation will help.
* We start our time together with prayer often read by the students themselves. The candles are lit and we begin with different activities. * The story of the day is based on one of the readings for that Sunday. We try and find different ways of presenting the story so that the students are actively involved. * We sing songs connected with the theme and often with accompanying actions. * Now is the time for our crafts-finger painting, models, decorations and many other fun things which you may have seen when you come into the Parish Hall. * We are summoned to communion by one of the servers. If we are not always on time we are probably disengaging ourselves from our crafts! * Our time together finishes with prayer. This includes intercessions written by the girls and boys and placed in our prayer house. The closing prayer is read by one of the students.
Up in the nursery our youngest students are playing games with the volunteers.
Our volunteers are too numerous to mention here and we are grateful for all of them.
We always welcome newcomers to our group- come in and see us any Sunday.
Sunday School Christmas Pageant December 21, 2014
While Archdeacon Jane read the story, the Sunday School children portrayed the first Christmas so long ago. The pictures, taken by Melissa McAllum, tell it all. Thanks to Pam Barnett, Ruth Kivinen and the children for reminding us of the birth of Christ. Thank you to Lynn Carr and Marie Green for making the wardrobe worn by our actors. Merry Christmas, one and all!
